Oxford Circus - Diagonal Crossing - Civic Trust Awards

Oxford Circus - Diagonal Crossing
Te Oxford Circus diagonal crossing Scheme, acknowledged both locally and worldwide as an innovative and successful Public Realm Scheme has received a further award, this time from the prestigious Civic Trust.

The key intersection had been a troublesome route for pedestrians and transport but the introduction of the diagonal crossing scheme, supported by Westminster City Council, The Crown Estate and Transport for London has transformed the crossing by improving accessibility. The widening of kerbs to create so much more safe space for pedestrians and the removal of street clutter and redundant barriers have shown how improvements can be achieved without compromising on safety or design.

The Scheme has succeeded in recreating the idea of circular space defined by matching frontages, originally intended by architect, John Nash and is now worthy of its iconic status.
